Author’ Introduction:   

Prof. Dr. Sarosh H. Lodhi earned his BE (Civil) from NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi in 1985. He then has earned MS in Structural Engineering from Oregon State University, Corvallis, USA and Ph.D from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK.

He is currently Professor of Civil Engineering at NED University of Engineering and Technology, Co- Chairman, Department of Civil Engineering and Management Representative since 1998.

Prof Lodhi was instrumental in helping NED University of Engineering and Technology to become the first public sector university to achieve ISO 9001:2000 certificate.

Abstract   

In the context of higher education, striving for high quality is not a new strategy. Institutions have always held academic excellence and high quality as the highest goals. Achieving these goals was easier in a time of abundant resources and favorable demographics.

Based on “Quality Principles”, NED University of Engineering and Technology has developed a Quality Management System, which has been implemented and have produced excellent results.

The Quality Management System has provided tools and means to measure quality quantitatively. It is anticipated that it will help the University to decide its future course of action.

Some achievements, as a result of this Quality Management System, as presented in this paper which not only outlines the improvements in performance but also define a few key performance indicators for the University.
